Andorra is located in the eastern Pyrenees Mountains bordering France and Spain with a population of around 67,800. The official language is Catalan but French and Spanish are also widely spoken. Andorra is made up of seven regions; Andorra La Vella, Canillo, Ordino, Encamp, Escaldes-Engordany, Saint Julia de Loria and La Massana.
Andorra La Vella the capital of Andorra is situated amongst stunning mountains in the Southwest. The town is now mostly taken over by the retailing of duty-free electronics and luxury goods. Escaldes-Engordany is near by and also great for shopping. A great variety of restaurants offer traditional Catalan dining with seafood delivered fresh from the coast each day. Bars and clubs also cater for the nightlife. Points of interest for tourists include the Santa Coloma Church and the Casa de la Vall.
Ordino in central Andorra is a village that has grown greatly in recent years but remains peaceful and traditional. The scenery around this area is said to be the most spectacular. Encamp also in this area is particularly popular for skiers. Near by El Pas de la Casa-Grau Roig has several slopes, which many consider to be some of the best in the Pyrenees.
Caldea Health Spa is worth a visit being one of the largest Spa's in Europe. Its architecture and amenities also make it unique. Naturally occurring hot water springs make it a particularly attractive thermal-leisure centre. There are three restaurants, a bar on the 11th floor of the Caldea tower boasting spectacular views, shopping gallery, cinema theatre, children's parks, hair dressers, numerous massage facilities, solariums, saunas, Jacuzzis, cold water well and bath and thermal water lagoon.
Climate in Andorra
Andorra has warm summers and dry winters. The high altitude of the country means that during winter they experience significantly more snow.
Winter months and therefore the most popular for skiing are from December through to March. Hiking season then begins and continues through to October.
