A River Runs Through It
Visitors to Brisbane will quickly note the city is named after the river that meanders through it on its way to the Pacific Ocean, a river whose importance as a focal point is celebrated in the Brisbane River Festival.
Held from August 31st to September 9th, the festival is a mass of activities, shows and entertainments held along the riverbank, with plenty to keep any visitor entertained.
A major highlight of the festival is a huge firework display, in which the varicoloured pyrotechnics light up the skies above and the waters below.
Organisers have stated that this is scheduled for September 1st.
Other events include food, arts, music and sport, all of which should provide great entertainment for those staying in cheap hotels in the city.
In the meantime, Brisbane offers plenty more for visitors, mainly thanks to its almost winterless sub-tropical climate.
Thus while Melbourne will be a bit nippy and Tasmania distinctly chilly, heading to the beach and enjoying the great outdoor culture is always an option in Brisbane.
