An Explosive New Year's Eve in Sydney

An explosive New Year's Eve in Sydney One of the best ways to celebrate New Year's Eve is with a good old-fashioned fireworks show and visitors to Australia in December can catch one of the best in Sydney.

More than a million people gathered at Sydney Harbour on December 31st 2006 to enjoy the explosive display that brought in 2007, with millions more watching around the world.

The theme of last year's celebration was the Sydney Harbour Bridge, to mark the 75th anniversary of the opening of the structure, but the premise for this year's show is being kept firmly under wraps.

Lord mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, said that this year's theme will be revealed at "the appropriate time" but predicted that the event will be "another spectacular celebration".

"The city invites you to join the party and take a front row seat to enjoy the best fireworks display in the world," Ms Moore added. "There is no place like Sydney to celebrate New Year's Eve."

Revellers staying in cheap hotels in Sydney around the end of December can catch the New Year's Eve fireworks show from a number of vantage points, including Gladesville Bridge, Pyrmont Point Park and Clarke's Point on Hunters Hill.
