Bolt from Bondi to Bronte
Australia and its inhabitants are well known for their sporting prowess and love of a physical challenge tendencies that visitors to the country will be able to see in full working order on December 2nd.
Since 2001, around 800 competitors have taken part in an ocean swim between Bondi Beach and Bronte Beach in Sydney.
The crossing takes place between two of the oldest lifesaving clubs in the world, Bondi in the north and Bronte Surf Club in the south.
Participants pass McKenzie's Point and Tamarama beach during their swim, which can cover up to 1.5 miles depending on the position of a buoy along the route.
Some AU$5,000 (£2,145) of prizes will be available to the competitors, including entries into the Vanuatu Ocean Swim and Fiji Ocean Swim in 2008.
All proceeds from the event will be used to purchase lifesaving equipment.
Sydney's Bondi Beach is one of the most popular tourist spots in Australia and is not far from the centre of the city, where a number of cheap hotels can be found.
