Bris is the One

Bris is the one Visitors to Brisbane in July will have a chance to sample for themselves the latest and finest wares of the growing Australian wine trade.

Although Johann Gramp planted his first vines by Jacob's Creek in the Barossa Valley as long ago as 1847, it has been in recent decades that the industry has seen major growth as labels from vineyards down under become household names.

Held from July 6th to the 8th in the Grand Chelsea ballroom of the Mercure Hotel, the event offers tasting, talks on winemaking and a chance to meet the winemakers, with tickets for different sessions varying from AU$15 (£6.25) to AU$35.

According to organisers there are over 600 wines to taste.

In addition to the festival, Brisbane offers plenty for visitors.

Set in the sub-tropics, the city is still warm in the Australian winter and there are fine beaches nearby, while the city has a good arts and culture scene.

It has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels.
