The Night the River Sings is a special event involving the Kookaburra River Queens, large paddle-wheeler boats that cruise up and down the river Brisbane in the heart of the city.

On this occasion the River Queens are joined by other boats, both commercial and private, all trying to outdo each other as they are decorated with lights; the light fantastic parade is accompanied by fireworks and music.

Apart from the parade, Brisbane offers plenty of attractions for visitors.

It is a vibrant, sub-tropical city of 1.5 million people with good nightlife and al fresco eating, close to the sea with good beaches at hand.

The city has plenty of accommodation, a number of cheap hotels and makes a good base for a wider tour of eastern Australia, with the Gold Coast and the Great Barrier Reef to the north and Sydney to the south.
