Cairns Puts on a Show

Cairns puts on a show The city of Cairns in northern Queensland has many attractions, but it also lets its hair down in style between July 18th and 20th 2007 in the annual Cairns Show.

Held in the dry season (there is no winter in tropical Australia), the event has been running for over a century and has expanded from its livestock show origins to encompass wine awards, equestrian events, cake making, visual arts and an animal nursery, with plenty of local entertainment on the stage.

In addition to the show, Cairns offers visitors staying in cheap hotels some of the greatest wonders in nature.

Chief among these is the Great Barrier Reef, with boat trip and the chance to go diving readily available, while the city also has great beaches and the traditional laid-back Aussie atmosphere.

Entry is $17 for adults (£7) and $8 for children.
