Caul the Odds out
Mention Melbourne to fans of horse racing or indeed most people and the instant response will be to mention the Melbourne Cup, but that is not the only big horse race to be held in the Australian sporting capital.
October 20th sees the running of the Caulfield Cup, a day to enjoy a series of races, with the cup itself carrying prize money of $2,544,000 (£1,029,000), organisers have stated.
The programme for the day also includes music and entertainment, plus a best dressed members competition, this being a day to put on the fancy suits and exotic hats.
All this, the course website states, can be enjoyed for a $50 entry fee.
Melbourne offers visitors staying in cheap hotels plenty of other attractions, with its fine beaches, cosmopolitan culture and cuisine, lively and varied nightlife, plus close proximity to the Yarra Valley wineries for budding connoisseurs.
