Festive Fantasy in Sydney

Festive fantasy in Sydney Sydney Opera House audiences will be given a unique treat in December as the city's Symphony Orchestra plays the works of Tchaikovsky.

Conductor Gianluigi Gelmetti will lead the orchestra, which will be joined by Canadian pianist Louis Lortie, who will play the great composer's Piano Concerto no.1.

Romeo and Juliet and the Nutcracker Suite, two of Tchaikovsky's most famous works, will also be performed for the lucky audience.

The performances will take place on December 14th and 15th, with Friday evening and Saturday matinee shows as well as a morning matinee on the Friday.

In this first show Lortie will play Piano Concerto no.19 by Mozart, one of Tchaikovsky's favourite composers, and Gelmetti will conduct the string section of the orchestra in the Russian maestro's Serenade for Strings.

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra performs more than 180 concerts a year and has attracted some of the world's most illustrious conductors and soloists.
