Flower Power Down Under

Flower power down under People who love their horticulture may find the end of March a great time to visit Australia's second largest city as the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show takes place.

The event runs from March 28th to April 1st, at the Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, with huge crowds expected to come and see a vast array of plants and flowers.

In addition, many horticulturalists from all over Australia will be putting on displays.

Adults can gain admission for $19 (£7.65) for the normal opening hours of 09.00 to 17.00 local time, or $15 for a twilight ticket to visit from 17.00 to 20.00, according to the festival site.

Apart from the flowers, the city of Melbourne has a wide array of attractions for visitors.

These include the fanatical sporting culture, with many a game of Aussie Rules to be seen at that time of year, a wide range of culinary treats, reflecting the diverse ethnicity of a city with a distinct European feel, a great nightlife and many beaches.

Melbourne has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
