Let Your Hair Down Under

Let your hair down under Australia may be famous for its mullets but it's the fringe where the most hair-raising and downright enjoyable fun is to be had for lovers of the arts.

Held from September 26th to October 14th 2007, the Melbourne Fringe Festival offers visitors staying in cheap hotels a wide experience of art and theatre, with performances frequently spilling out of the theatres and onto the streets as performers use a variety of venues as backdrops for their work.

According to festival organisers, the inspiration for the event, which has been run since 1982, was the discovery that most of the performers at the Adelaide Fringe had travelled across from the Victorian capital.

Those in the city to enjoy the arts will be able to supplement their experience with a wide range of interesting things to see and do.

Melbourne's cosmopolitan population offers immense culinary variety, while the city is united in its love of sport, be it Aussie rules football, association football or cricket.

By October the weather should be warming up nicely, notwithstanding the vagaries of the local climate, meaning there should be some good days to be had on the beach.
