Little Italy in Big Australia

Little Italy in big Australia Nestled snugly on the border between Victoria and South Australia lies Mildura, a small town in the middle of a big country.

Mildura is an interesting country town in Australia, as a high proportion of its residents are Italian immigrants, meaning that flash haircuts and fast cars sit happily alongside utes and flannel shirted farmers.

One of Australia's top wine producing areas, Mildura is also a mecca for backpackers looking to fund their trips around cities such as Adelaide and Melbourne.

With exceptional sights such as the 12 Apostles, which stand stridently along the Great Ocean Road, Flinders Ranges and Kangaroo Island in the nearby vicinity, many of the travellers find that hot days in the almost innumerable vineyards can fund the next leg of their journey.

The large number of backpackers in the region also ensures that there is a wide range of cheap hotels and hostels.

However, it's not all hard work in Mildura, as once a year two of the town's great loves (wine and jazz) are combined to create a party, which has become one of Victoria's top events.

Earthbeat Mildura features many jazz performances throughout the region, also seeing revellers indulging in the local tipple to their heart's content.
