Pan for Gold
Australia's Gold Coast offers plenty of interest for the lovers of sun, sand and surf at any time, but this year it is Australia's turn to hold the Pan Pacific Masters Games, taking place from November 4th to the 12th.
The event, which alternates each year between the Gold Coast and Sacramento in California, is a 40-sport event with 10,000 athletes.
Each sport sees competitors divided into age-groups, each with their own competition, taking part in events as varied as archery, beach volleyball, taekwondo and of course that great Australian sport, surf life saving.
Anyone can take part, although it may be just as much fun simply to spectate and soak up the sun.
The Gold Coast has a huge range of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
It can also be a base for a wider tour of Australia, with the bustling city of Brisbane to the south and Cairns to the north, with the Great Barrier Reef lying off its coast.
