Say Hello to Sydney
Jetsetting travellers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the beautiful city of Sydney and all it has to offer in January as it hosts its annual festival.
The Sydney Festival has been running since 1977, when it was first conceived by the Sydney Committee, the New South Wales state government and the City of Sydney as a way of attracting more visitors in the holiday month of January.
For three weeks in the first month of every year the city comes to life with a programme of events involving more than 500 artists from the fields of theatre, dance, music, visual arts, cross media and others.
In 2008, people staying in cheap hotels in Sydney can enjoy what the festival has to offer between January 5th and 26th.
A number of major figures from the music world will be performing in the Australian city, including Icelandic songstress Bjork, former Beach Boy Brian Wilson - who will perform the seminal Pet Sounds in its entirety - and hip hop outfit De La Soul.
There will also be a number of innovative entertainment ideas on offer, including the 'haircuts by children' show, which does exactly what it says on the tin.
Would you be brave enough to have your locks chopped by a professionally trained ten-year-old?
