Show Some Respect in Canberra

Show some respect in Canberra This November will see Australians celebrate their annual Remembrance Day at the country's war memorial in Canberra.

Parades will commemorate those who died in the two World Wars and a special ceremony will be held in respect of their lives.

Held on the anniversary of the armistice on November 11th, the event provides a focus for the nation as the country's prime minister and the governor general of the Commonwealth of Australia lay poppy wreaths beneath the memorial.

A single rose will also be laid on the tomb of the unknown Australian soldier in commemoration of those whose bodies were never identified and there will be a traditional one minute's silence at 11:00 local time.

Those heading to Canberra to take part in the Remembrance Day activities can find cheap hotels in and around the city. Canberra offers a host of interesting things to see and do, including the Captain Cook Memorial Jet and the Ginninderra Village.
