Summadayze in Perth
As Brits are shivering in the cold in January, Australians will be partying in the sun, particularly on January 6th as the Summadayze festival comes to Perth.
The Summadayze party, first held in Melbourne in 1999, has developed into Australia's biggest dance music event and regularly attracts some of the biggest acts on the scene.
People staying in cheap hotels in Perth in January can find this offshoot of the Melbourne event at the Supreme Court Gardens.
Among the DJs and bands that will be entertaining the crowds this year are New Young Pony Club, De La Soul, David Guetta, Sister Bliss of Faithless fame and Felix Da Housecat.
Seeing as Australia tends to get particularly toasty at the height of summer there will be a number of provisions to keep partygoers cool, including ice cream and fresh fruit stalls, shaded areas and 70 free water drinking points.
There will also be aqua slides, a foam fun area and other amusements to add to the party atmosphere.
Perth, one of Australia's major cities, is located on the country's western coast, where its beaches are lapped by the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean.
