The Hunt for Red November

The hunt for Red November Visitors to Australia in the (northern hemisphere) autumn will be able to mix a fruit and wine festival with important wartime remembrance in Queensland's granite region.

The area hosts the Red November festival, which actually begins in October 2007, focusing on the cherries, strawberries and red wines for which the Glen Alpin region is famed but also the fallen of the Great War.

Special events within the festival listed on the Granite Belt site include the day of fine wine and Greek music at Kominos Wines on October 23rd, a Victorian music day at Robert Channon Wines on November 7th and a four-course lunch with wine at Sirromet Wines on November 13th.

The Remembrance Field, which is appropriately planted with poppies and bears the name of seven Flanders battlefields, is open from October 15th to November 15th.

Glen Alpin lies close to the border with New South Wales and the Girween, Sundown, Bald Rock and Boonoo Boonoo National Parks.

It has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels.
