Wacky Races

Wacky Races The red centre of Australia is the place to be for motorsport fanatics in June as the ultimate in two-day endurance racing takes place.

The Tattersalls Finke Desert Race sees all manner of vehicles, from motorbikes and quad bikes to desert buggies hurtling like something out of Mad Max across the outback in a wacky race from Alice Springs to the small community of Finke and back again.

Held from June 9th to the 11th, the event gives aspiring Penelope Pitstops and Dick Dastardlys the chance to test their speed, endurance and vehicular durability in the vast expanse of the Northern Territory.

When not racing or watching the competitors hurtling along, visitors staying in cheap hotels in Alice Springs can enjoy a variety of attractions.

These include gumtrees and other outback plants in the botanic gardens, balloon rides offering panoramic views and trips down to Uluru, formerly known as Ayers Rock, just one of the many ways to gain an insight into Aboriginal culture in the area.
