Watch the Boating in Alice
Alice Springs, right in the heartland of arid, red Australia, hosts its own boating event each year in September on the Todd River.
However, the Henley-on-Todd Regatta is a boat race with a difference - there's no water!
Each year the madcap racers grab hold of a boat and run along the dried-up riverbeds of the Todd, with events such as the rowing seeing eight competitors lugging the heavy crafts in the searing heat - providing something of a unique sight to visitors.
Aside from the rowing, there are a number of other fun events, including the sand skis, tug of war and bath tub derby.
Although the regatta no doubt provides a great day's entertainment for the crowds who flock there each year, the main attractions in the Alice Springs area are the giant rocks Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata-Tjuta (the Olgas).
Tourists staying in one of the town's cheap hotels can easily access the national park and take in these spectacular and ancient sites.
