Yacht a Race

Yacht a race For those who love their boats and fancy spending Christmas Down Under, the Sydney to Hobart yacht race offers all that and more.

Traditionally held on Boxing Day and sailing every year since 1945, the event is a key event in the Australian sporting calendar.

Starting in the famous Sydney Harbour, the competitors will navigate their way out and across the Tasman to Tasmania, where the yachts will round the island and sail up the Derwent river into the city.

Both cities offer plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels, with a host of things to see and do under the summer sun.

Sydney is famous for its Harbour Bridge, Opera House, nightlife and beaches, while the charming little city of Hobart is surrounded by the dramatic mountain scenery of Tasmania, with great views across the city from the 4,166 foot high Mount Wellington.
