A Load of Hot Air
Those who dream of seeing a vast flotilla of varicoloured hot air balloons slowly and gracefully dispersing across the expanse of a huge open sky can live this out by visiting Kitzbuhel in Austria this September.
Held for the 18th time in 2007, the Tyrol Balloon Cup takes place in the town, running from September 15th to the 21st.
According to the schedule, the first evening sees the Night of the Balloons, when the huge vessels are lit up brightly in a spectacular display.
This is followed by a series of races in which competitors from far and wide take part.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels can enjoy the spectacle for free or pay to go up in a balloon themselves, which according to the local tourist website will cost €180 (£121) per person.
Kitzbuhel also offers a stunning panorama of Alpine scenery, with plenty of hiking opportunities on the mountains.
