An Ice Place to Visit

An ice place to visit Visitors to the Austrian city of Salzburg will be able to enjoy one of the coolest attractions around if they head into the hills just south of the city.

Here, near the village of Werfen, lies the Werfen Ice Caves, which are open from May until late October, giving visitors in the autumn a last chance this year to see some of the most spectacular natural ice sculptures on Earth.

Werfen Ice Caves are the biggest of their kind in the world, offering visitors a chance to take a tour 1km underground in the permanently frozen subterranean wonderland, where unnatural lighting illuminates some remarkable natural features as giant icicles and formations glitter and sparkle in permanent displays of amazing beauty.

The caves website states that prices for adult visitors are €17 conversion? for a combined cave tour and cable car ride up to the cave, or €8 for the cave tour on its own.

Nearby Salzburg is a lively city with plenty of fine baroque architecture and good accommodation, including a number of cheap hotels.
