Austria Attempts to Seduce Europeans

Austria has this week unveiled a new campaign, Temptress Europe, to reawaken Europe to the continent's sensuous side.

The campaign is expected to evoke the story of Greek god Zeus's mythical seduction of Europa.

The story goes that Zeus fell in love with Europa and turned himself into a great white bull to seduce her and carried her away to Crete where he reassumed his manly form.

Hans Winkler, of Austria's foreign ministry, commented that he hopes the campaign will restore a sense of identity across the 25-nation bloc.

"The best way to nurture a feeling for and interest in Europe is to discover its sensuous and cultural diversity for yourself," he remarked.

In addition, on Europe Day on May 9th, Austria and the Institute of the Regions of Europe will promote Cafe d'Europe, a project aimed at adopting conversations about the future of the continent.

This week posters have been put up around Vienna promoting the campaign and carrying the slogan, Europe: Be Inspired. Europe: Be Seduced.
