Enjoy a Viennese Whirl Round the Market
Visitors to Vienna in the run-up to Christmas can really get into the festive mood - and do some Christmas shopping - at the Christmas markets in the Rathausplatz, just outside the famous Rathaus, one of the grandest buildings in a city full of great architecture.
The stalls at this traditional fair will be open from 09:00 to 21:00 local time every day from November 17th to December 23rd, with a 17:00 closing time on Christmas Eve.
All this will allow visitors staying in cheap hotels in the Austrian capital to find lots of gifts for their loved ones, while enjoying the many sweets, treats and drinks on display.
In the meantime, Vienna offers theatre, opera, and grand architecture to fascinate culture vultures, while those looking for simpler entertainment can visit the fair in the huge Prater park by the Danube, which includes the ferris wheel made famous in the spy film The Third Man.
