Experience the HayArt Festival in Austria

Experience the HayArt festival in Austria Holidaymakers staying in cheap hotels in Salzburg in August will be able to make the short trip to the town of Abtenau to experience one of Austria's most unusual events.

The HayArt festival, which is arranged to celebrate the end of the harvest, will be held on August 29th and 30th.

Serving as the centrepiece of the entire festival is the HayArt parade, which sees a collection of giant hay figures embarking on a procession through the streets of Abtenau.

Individual participants, clubs and local artists take part in the event, crafting figures of up to four metres in height that are adorned with hay, paint and other decorations.

The giant creations are then mounted on floats that are pulled through the streets of the town by horses and old-fashioned tractors.

Throughout September and October, the hay figures go on show at local establishments for visitors to see.

Abtenau, which is located just outside the city of Salzburg, is part of the Lammertal region of Austria, where holidaymakers can go cycling, visit lakes and try many other activities.
