Make the Mozt of It
The life and works of Salzburg's most famous son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, will be celebrated in Mozart Week, running from January 26th to February 4th.
Following on from a whole year of celebrations in 2006 marking his 250th birthday, the week itself will focus on the great composer's own works and his interpretations of others.
According to the tourist office website, these will include works such as Handel's Messiah and music from Bach, Beethoven and Joseph Haydn.
The festival will also include modern works based on the master's style.
Apart from classical music, Salzburg has many attractions for visitors.
The city itself has a number of museums, including the Toy Museum, Wax Museum and the Museum of Natural History, while the surrounding mountains offer plenty for the winter sports enthusiast.
Also nearby is the spectacular Werfen ice cave.
Salzburg has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
