On the Piste in Austria
Austria will be playing host to two major events in the 2008 Alpine Skiing World Cup this year - the slalom and giant slalom.
The competitions will be held at Bad Kleinkirchheim in Austria's Carinthian mountains on December 8th and 9th.
Slalom events see skiers weaving down slopes and passing through gates that are spaced at various distances from each other, which influences the speed at which the competitor travels.
An established part of the ski season since 1967, the Alpine Skiing World Cup is seen as the most glamorous event in the sport's calendar.
It includes five individual disciplines, with super G, downhill and combined events being contested along with the slalom and giant slalom competitions.
The town of Bad Kleinkirchheim could make an ideal spot for a day trip or weekend break for people with a cheap hotel booking in Austria in December.
Situated on the picturesque Lake Millstatt, the town has an average height of 1,087 metres above sea level and is surrounded by mountains.
