Those who fancy starting 2007 in style can do so in Vienna at the famous Vienna philharmonic New Year concert, held in the Musikverein in the heart of the city.
It is one of three concerts in the series, with others held on December the 30th and 31st, well worth noting as tickets are not easy to come by for this, one of the world's most famous annual concerts.
Dating back to 1939, the event is a celebration of the music of Johann Strauss and other great Viennese composers.
Outside the concert hall, Austria's capital offers a wealth of attractions for visitors.
Amongst these are the River Danube, a vast array of gothic buildings and statues, rides on horse drawn carriages and the Prater, a huge riverside park in which the centrepoint is the ferris wheel made famous from a scene in the film The Third Man.
The city has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
