Watching the Void

Winter will see thousands head to the Alps, not just for skiing but for some daring feats of climbing in treacherous winter conditions, a passion that is revealed in full on the silver screen by the International Mountain & Adventure Film Festival.

In 2004 the trophy was won by British mountaineer Joe Simpson for his documentary Touching the Void, featuring his astonishing escape from death after a climbing accident on Siula Grande in the Andes.

Graz has a number of attractions in addition to the films and its fame as the birthplace of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The city has grand architecture in the shape of its cathedral and town hall, while views from the Schlossberg hill can be enjoyed by riding to the top on the funicular railway.
