We've Got Our Cattle Back
Some people like to party until the cows come home, but for those visiting the Alpine regions, including the Tirol in Austria, it's a case of partying when the cows come home.
Almabrieb is a festival held at the very end of September, marking the end of the summer season when the cows that have spent the long and warm days grazing happily high in the mountains are brought down into the valleys as autumn kicks in and winter approaches.
The cows are dressed up with spectacular varicoloured head-dresses, including flowers, bells and other decorations, while visitors staying in cheap hotels in the region can compliment this bovine carnival with plenty of food, drink and entertainment, including bread and dairy products, plus of course a fair bit of beer.
With music and dance adding to the flavour of the occasion, the event makes for a highlight of a visit to this beautiful mountain region.
