Beach Bums on Show in Antwerp

Although lounging on a beach may be more often associated with California, Thailand or Sydney, Antwerp has its own beach which attracts thousands of visitors.

Strantwerpen, as it is known, is open from June 15th to September 15th 2006, with holidaymakers and locals alike enjoying the summer sun stretched out on the sand.

Although many may be sceptical about the benefits of Belgian beach life, the Antwerp Tourist Board's glowing recommendation may tempt a few more to visit:

"With a design beach pavilion, an exotic terrace, inviting beach sand and a new exterior bar, it is sure to seduce thousands of sun-worshippers and bon vivants."

The brainchild of designer Karim Osmani, Strantwerpen is a physical realisation of his dream to bridge the gap between cultures, times and materials, while the success is evident – the resort was recently named in the book Best Beach Clubs of the World.

Travellers still not convinced may also not be aware of the city's many cheap hotels, clubs and bars, cafes and shopping, while picturesque architecture adds another element of beauty, especially when the city is lit up at night.
