Brussels' Beautiful Glasshouses
During April and May this year, the Belgian Royal Parks open their doors to allow visitors in.
This annual event is made all the more special and spectacular by the fact that the most incredible structure in the parks is opened up to give people the chance to see some of the more exotic plants kept in the grounds.
A vast collection of plants exists within the 11 glasshouses which make up what King Leopold II envisioned as a "city of glass".
A wondrous sight to behold at any time of day, these beautiful glasshouses get better in the early evening, as the sun starts to set on the myriad of plants contained within them.
The glasshouses were designed in the 19th century at the behest of King Leopold II and this annual opening of the glasshouses to the public gives a small insight into the opulence and grandeur of the royals and their residence in Brussels.
