Buley Boy Tactics
Anyone fancying a bit of entertainment with a difference will be able to do just that in the Belgian town of Namur, where August 12th sees its medieval jousting traditions re-enacted…on water.
In the annual Buley Nights Jousting Championship, two teams in boats confront each other on the River Meuse, one from Jambes and the other from Plantes, with four jousters on each boat.
The contest runs through quarter final, semi-final and final rounds until just one jouster is left standing still dry in his boat while the rest are wringing out their wet clothes, this victor being declared King of the Jousters.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in Namur can enjoy this spectacle for free, watching on the riverbank, while extra entertainment is provided onshore, including a flea market.
Namur's history and heritage is also represented by the former military Citadel, Saint-Aubain Cathedral and a large number of museums.
