Cheap Hotels in Belgium - News

By George Visitors to the town of Mons in Belgium in June will be in for a shock if they think that St George is all about England.

The legend is also celebrated in the low countries, not least here, where on Trinity Sunday (June 3rd) the famous battle between knight and fire-breathing dragon (known as the Battle of the Lumecon) is re-enacted.

Before the beast is slain in traditional style, the Golden Carriage, containing many artefacts, is carried through the town in procession to its traditional site outside the church of Saint Waltrude.

This traditional activity dates back to the 14th century, one of many historical attractions that visitors staying in cheap hotels in Mons can enjoy.

Apart from Saint Waltrude's Church, other fine historic buildings include the town hall, which dominates the Grand Place, where the Lumecon takes place.

Naturally enough, visitors will be able to eat and drink very well here thanks to Belgium's legendary beer and chocolates.
