Horse Night Rider
Those looking for a good place to do some Christmas shopping on the continent may find juts the thing at the Sablon Nights in Brussels.
Starting on the last Thursday in November and running into December (exact dates to be confirmed), the three-day event sees the stalls, normally open at weekends, trading until 23:00 local time, to the accompaniment of music and illuminations.
The festival has a park-and-ride service with a difference, as visitors are taken free on horse drawn carriages from the car parks into the Sablon Quarter, where the historic atmosphere is enhanced by stallholders wearing period costume.
Once there, visitors can browse and buy antiques, chocolates, wines and many other items.
Brussels offers many other attractions, with a range of Flemish and French architecture and a cosmopolitan, melting pot atmosphere created by the many cultures and nationalities represented there.
Apart from the shopping, Brussels is famous for fine architecture such as the Grand Palace and the Atomium, plus the National Basilica, one of the biggest churches in the world.
Being a large, cosmopolitan city Brussels has a wealth of accommodation options with plenty of cheap hotels.
