Passchen for Peace

Passchen for peace Those interested in history will find a very poignant trip to the West Flanders area of Belgium could be on the cards in October.

Around the town of Ypres, commemorations are ongoing for the 90th anniversary of the third battle of Ypres, better known as Passchendale.

This will be a time and place of remembrance for the half a million who died fighting in the battle in 1917, with October's events including a memorial to the Anzacs who died in the battle, followed by a Rugby match on October 6th 2007, Whatsonwhen states.

Harry Patch, now 109 and the last living British soldier to have fought in the battle, recently visited the scene.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in the area can see more about the history of the battle at the Passchendale Memorial Museum, which features uniforms and displays of trench layouts.
