Adventure in the Ice
Adventurous travellers after a unique holiday experience may like the idea of a spot of polar bear watching.
It seems that getting a glimpse of magnificent creatures in their natural habitat is becoming a popular pastime if ambitious holidaymakers aren't heading to South Africa to watch whales they are setting course for Canada to see the world's largest land carnivore.
People staying in cheap hotels in Canada in the months of October and November can head to Churchill in Manitoba, where a number of tour operators offer bear-watching excursions.
As many as 1,200 bears gather in the region, waiting for water in the bay to freeze so they can go hunting for seals. It is possible to see dozens of the wonderful creatures in a single day.
Polar bears are native to the Arctic and can weigh up to 600kg.
However these animals are at increasing risk of extinction in the wild and in Churchill the ice is thought to be shrinking, which makes it more difficult for the bears to hunt their prey and sustain themselves.
With this in mind, there are some companies that are actively involved in the conservation of the region and its wildlife.
