Blue is the Colour
For those who like their berries to be blue the Quebec Blueberry Festival in August is a culinary treat well worth seeing.
Held from the 1st to the 7th of the month in the town of Mistassini, the event celebrates the province's status as one of the blueberry capitals of the world.
With plenty of blueberry cooking demonstrations and contests, a night-time parade and the chance to grab a slice of a huge blueberry pie, visitors staying in cheap hotels will be only too happy to be painting the town blue.
As well as the festival, blueberry fans can enjoy some wonderful local scenery, including the waters of Lake Mistassini, plus as the proudly Francophone culture of this part of Canada.
North of Mistassini lies vast tracts of the big country, with wild, remote areas filled with forests, mountains, lakes and very wild animals.
