If You Can't Stand the Beer, Get out of the Kitchener
Beer lovers heading to Canada in October may be delighted to hear that a hint of Munich has been transported across the Atlantic to provide the city of Kitchener in Ontario with its own Oktoberfest.
Held in true Bavarian style, this is every bit the classical Germanic festival, with organisers promising that the large ethnic German community (the mayor of Kitchener is called Carl Zehr) will recreate the atmosphere of the original.
This visitors staying in cheap hotels can expect plenty of beer, food, Bavarian dress and dancing, leather shorts and oompah music.
In addition to this, there is a Miss Oktoberfest contest, a treasure hunt, a fashion show, and a gala ball, while additional music comes in the Rocktoberfest concert.
Kitchener's Okoberfest is being held for the 39th time this year and takes place between October 5th and 13th 2007.
