Rip It Up for Reggae

Rip it up for reggae Reggae fans may not want to miss this year's Calgary International Reggae Festival, a fun-packed week of tunes and top entertainment.

Although reggae may conjure up images of Jamaica for many holidaymakers, rather than Canada, Calgary certainly doesn’t see that as the case, getting down and dirty with some roots each year.

However, the event is still relatively in its infancy, having begun in 2003 when a group of likeminded Reggae lovers thought that Canada just wasn't getting enough of the stuff.

The festival therefore has a social goal, as well as one of socialising, with the aim of promoting the music in Canada and pressing mainstream media stations into giving it more airtime.

But hey, for the rest of us it's just about good music! Calgary, the largest city in Alberta, has a wide range of accommodation including cheap hotels and rather more luxurious lodgings.
