Vancouver Hotels Told Not to Overcharge During Olympics

Vancouver hotels told not to overcharge during Olympics Despite the fact that the next winter Olympics are four years away, hotels in Vancouver are already being urged not to bump prices up.

Research shows that tourism companies have already begun to sell hotel and flight packages at high prices, which has prompted authorities to control rates.

One hotel and flight package for the Vancouver Winter Olympics is charging around 1,400 Canadian Dollars (£690) a night for a room that usually costs just 289 Canadian dollars.

Dave Gazley, of Tourism Vancouver, went on to say that these prices were far too high.

"That has happened in some previous Olympic destinations, that there's a short-term mentality by some of those in the accommodations community," he continued.

He went on to say that the city is to launch a spectator accommodation programme in 2008, which will encourage hotels to keep their prices at a reasonable level.

The tourism agency is hoping that those visiting the city for the Olympics will fall in love with it and come back for more, boosting tourism to Vancouver.
