Whistle While You Watch
For those who love a film festival in a novel setting, the town of Whistler in British Columbia offers indoor celluloid fun amidst the winter snows of a major ski resort from November 30th to December 3rd.
The festival offers a wide range of international films, over 100 in total, although naturally enough the emphasis is on Canadian productions.
Canada's best new feature film will win the Borsos award, which is now worth CAD$15,000 (£7,100) according to organisers.
Outside the film festival, Whistler offers a good time to those who love their winter sports, with the resort attracting millions of visitors every year and consistently ranked one of the top winter resorts in North America.
It lies less than 120 miles from Vancouver, offering the option of a city break as well.
The area has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
