Tri This if You're Made of Iron
For anyone who fancies taking part in endurance sport at its toughest, or perhaps simply watching the spectacle, the Ironman Triathlon on the island of Lanzarote could be just the thing.
The event involves the three disciplines of swimming, cycling and running combined, with the rugged volcanic scenery of the island providing both a magnificent scenic backdrop and adding to the challenge.
May 19th is the day when the Iron Men set off on their challenge.
Entry requires a €400 fee while spectators can of course watch for free, with the biking route heading all over the island.
Visitors to the island will also be able to enjoy sunshine, sand and sea, with excellent nightlife, all at a more leisurely pace, while the volcanic scenery inland is interspersed with a wide range of flora and fauna, not to mention plenty of interest for amateur geologists.
