New Year in Shanghai
Celebrate the Chinese New Year in traditional style at one of the world's biggest and most famous cultural events.
Falling on the first day of the first lunar month, the Chinese New Year attracts revellers from far and wide to take part in festivities which completely take over parts of Shanghai. Red and gold decorations are used to represent the New Year and other traditional festivities include goodwill poems hung on doors and gates.
To be expected, the event also features plenty of vibrant dragon dances, exploding with energy and colour, as well as other open air entertainments.
Whilst visitors and tourists are welcome the Chinese New Year is an important event for Chinese families, who gather to share traditional New Year dinners complete with special cakes. Visitors to Shanghai can enjoy a slice of Chinese culture on the night and ring in the Chinese New Year in the heart of China.
This year the Chinese New Year falls on February 18th.
