Anthestiria Flower Festival
The winter blues will be a fading memory as spring blooms in full at the Anthestiria Flower Festival in Paphos.
Green-fingered visitors can explore a world of flowers and foliage in suitably picturesque surroundings, with all manner of natural wonders on the menu. The festival continues to attract hordes of visitors each year, celebrating an historic event that has become an integral part of Greek history.
Unsurprisingly, the word Anthestiria itself derives from the Greek word meaning flower, giving you a slight indication as to what you might find, with carpets of fresh flowers covering a huge area.
As well as flowers and plantlife galore visitors can get stuck into the festivities of the occasion which is renowned for its vibrancy and high spirit combined with a true celebration of natural beauty. Food and drink stalls feature throughout for a sampling of local cuisine, although getting too merry could lead visitors facing
a stagger back to their cheap hotels.
For an extra slice of Cypriot culture visitors to the Anthestiria Flower Festival can also take a tour of the local area and drink in the history of the region.
