It's All Greek in Larnaca

It's all Greek in Larnaca Larnaca plays host to one of the biggest events in the Greek Cypriot calendar through September and October.

Featuring Ballet, opera, art, music and film, all with a distinctive cultural flavour, the festival takes place this year at the Patticheion Municipal Theatre, offering a chance for culture vultures to get under the skin of Greek Cypriot identity.

Larnaca is well served for tourists, with lots of accommodation, including cheap hotels, an international airport and a number of historic and cultural attractions in and around the area.

Religious sites are particularly prominent, including the Church of Lazarus, the man raised from the dead by Jesus and first Bishop of the town, and the Stavrovouni Monastery 40 km from Larnaca.

Also near the town is the Kition archeological site, home of a Mycenean settlement and Great Salt Lake, where a vast pink horde of flamingos comes to spend each winter.
