Laughter and Lent
Cyprus offers visitors many reasons to come at any time of the year, but for those who love their festivities the carnival offers a ten-day celebration occurring all over the Greek part of the island.
Running from February 8th to the 18th, the carnival marks the start of Lent, 50 days before the Greek Orthodox Easter, with an exciting mix of foods, parades and processions, an equivalent to pancake day in the west, with many foods and treats then given up until Easter.
Visitors to the island will be able to enjoy festivities in many different towns and villages, thus enabling the festival to be enjoyed as part of a tour.
Cyprus offers a range of historic and scenic attractions for visitors, including a warm climate, sandy beaches, historic churches and monuments, along with archaeological sites from a myriad of cultures, from the Romans to the Byzantines, who have occupied the island through the centuries.
The island has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels.
