Bohemian Rhapsody in Prague

Bohemian rhapsody in Prague In the 17 years since the fall of the iron curtain, Prague has blossomed as a city of culture and entertainment, with its summer season culminating in the Prague Autumn Festival.

The Festival lowercase, which runs from September 12th to October 1st, is a huge celebration of classical music, a counterpart to the Prague Spring festival earlier in the year and a climax to the summer season in a comparable way to the BBC proms.

Prague will be host to the BBC of course, with the philarmonic orchestra taking its place in the programme, which includes work by world famous composers like Tchaikovsky, Mozart and Strauss and the famous Czech composer Dvorak.

According to the festival site, the concerts will be held at the Rudolfinum, Prague Congrees Centre and the Grandhotel Pupp, with a wide range of tickets available, starting at 100 Coruna (£2.39).

The price of tickets reflects the favourable cost of visiting this city, with lots of cheap hotels available alongside cheap beer and food, all of which could make Prague friendly to the wallet.

Those seeking culture and heritage outside the concert hall will not be disappointed either, with the largest ancient castle in the world, the historic Lesser Town, a large number of museums and of course Wenceslas square, famous as the gathering place for thousands in the Prague Spring of 1968, which failed to free the country from Soviet domination, and the 1989 velvet revolution which did.

In short, Prague is a city of beauty, culture and history at a price to suit any budget.
