Classical Music Festival Returns to Prague

Classical music festival returns to Prague One of the biggest classical music festivals in Europe is set to attract some of the most celebrated figures in the genre.

Thousands of music lovers from across the world are likely to come to this year's Prague Spring International Music Festival to see some of the finest orchestras and singers in the Czech Republic.

Numerous international names are on this year's programme, including the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas.

In addition, Sakari Oramo will conduct the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, while the famous Swiss oboist Heinz Holliger will be among the famous individuals visiting the event.

As well as international ensembles, homegrown orchestras such as the Prague Symphony Orchestra are also set to play their music to the masses.

The festival is set to commence on May 12th, which is the anniversary of the death of Bedrich Smetmana, widely regarded as the father of Czech music.

It has become traditional for the event to open with one of Smetana's works, entitled Ma Vlast.
