Prague 'becoming More Popular with Tourists'
Eastern Europe has become an increasingly popular destination with travellers, a new study has found.
Research by Cheapflights UK revealed that there was a 52 per cent rise in online searches for flights in the region in the first week of January 2010 when compared with the same period in the previous year.
Prague enjoyed a 62 per cent boost in popularity, according to the price comparison website.
Other destinations that were popular among consumers included Warsaw and Dubrovnik.
Nadine Hallak, UK spokesperson for Cheapflights UK, said that it is clear to see why there has been a positive shift in searches for eastern Europe.
She explained: "Last year showed a recessional shift toward long and mid-haul destinations, and as the economic downturn continues to linger, travellers are casting their nets a bit closer to home where the offering in price is similar to that of mid-haul, and the attractions are broad and endless."
Cheapflights UK said that Prague continues to generate interest among holidaymakers in 2010 and has now established itself as a popular destination.
